• What is postural alignment therapy?

With a sedentary life-style, stress and emotional tension, the body will start to develop dysfunctions, compensations and imbalances. It is then a question of time before body pain will ensue. With a series of gentle exercises and stretches your body will get a chance to work according to its original design again. You will restore balance and symmetry and pains caused by bad posture will be alleviated. With improved posture you will also experience an improvement in your emotional state of being and it is ideal as a complement to psychotherapeutic work as well as deep tissue massage.

  • How does it work?

If your body has lost its designed posture, it is because muscles have moved your bones into a new, dysfunctional position. Some muscles will have work too hard while some become weaker. Joints will start to grind and wear unevenly. Pain is the body’s way of alerting you to the fact that your body is not aligned and therefore not moving properly. Through simple and effective body movements, your muscles will be reeducated. Your muscles can again work together according to their design. You will not only feel better, but also be able to move with grace.

The focus is primarily on the removal of the cause of the complaint, by restoring your posture. Often the cause of a symptom is elsewhere in the body. So can a tilted pelvis cause shoulder pain. A fundamental principle is that the body works as a unit. By returning the body to its original blue-print you enable the body to heal itself.

Postural alignment therapy fosters a client-driven therapy experience where you and your therapist work together to develop your personal exercise menu, made according to your posture, symptoms and needs.

  • How much time do I need to invest?

It will depend on your symptoms and the state you are in. Your menu of e-cises could take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to complete. While not all clients will require two hours of therapy daily, some do. Most of our clients who fall under that category are in so much pain that they are motivated to do their menu daily, regardless of how long it takes.

In cooperation with your therapist, you will work out the ideal menu for your life-style, physical condition and wishes.

  • How long will it take for me to see results/feel better?

All of our clients respond differently and on different timelines. That being said, the vast majority of clients feel different after their first visit! The instant results from the exercises is a great motivational factor.

The body has an amazing ability to heal itself; you just have to give it a chance. For most of our clients, they did not get in to their current position overnight, and they will not get out of it overnight. Postural alignment therapy is a process, but one with a remarkable 94% success rate since its inception.

  • Can I still see my chiropractor, physical therapist, massage therapist or other health practitioner?

Yes, this method of healing the body can be used in conjunction with many different healing modalities. Your postural alignment therapist can also take that into account when creating your menu. The goal of the postural alignment therapy is to return control of your health back into your hands so that ultimately, you are not dependent on another person or machine to achieve an optimal state of health. Our approach is to educate you on what you need to do to fix yourself.

  • Is postural alignment different from yoga or Pilates?

Simply put, yes. This method provides a specifically tailored set of exercises designed to eliminate your structural dysfunctions that are causing your pain. The majority of yoga and Pilates classes are group-based where everyone in the class is asked to do the same exercises, positions, or moves. While certain positions might be easy for one person, they might seem physically impossible for the next. postural Alignment therapy fosters a client-driven therapy experience where you and your therapist work together to develop your personal exercise menu, made according to your posture, symptoms and needs.
